MIDLANDS IRISH SETTER SOCIETY CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW 19.01.2002
BITCHES
This is first and foremost an exhibitors' show as proven by its perennial popularity and the very hard working committee are to be congratulated for their efforts in making it so. I was thrilled by the large entry, but somewhat disappointed in the overall standard of conformation. Too many were lacking in front assembly angulation which produced unsound movement with short choppy steps, while a fair number had no width to the chest at all. Presentation was with the odd exception, good.
MINOR PUPPY(9, 1 abs)
1. Townsend's FOLLIDOWN RED HOT POKER, so well balanced for such a baby, most lovely head, eye and expression, good outline and width to hindquarters, most promising.
2. Drinkwater's BRABROOK WAIKIKI ROAMANCER, very eye catching with a lovely overall shape, slightly rangier than the winner, has lots of quality about her, shown in healthy glossy coat.
3. Smith's REDDINS TROUNCE
PUPPY(24,4)
1. Ciechonska's AOIBHEANNES PIAFFE, what 3 little cracker, well developed for her age, excellent general construction, kind eye and soft expression, correct croup and tailset, moved steadily and BPIS in full agreement with my co judge.
2. Ritchie's GWENDARIFF POP MY CORK, refined feminine head, clean over neck and shoulders, balanced throughout, happy on the move, put down in tip top condition.
3. Rutherford's GEMSTONE I AM CLONAGEERA.
VETERAN (7, 3)
1. Davie's SH. CH. DUNNYGASK ALLEGRA, old favourite of mine who is carrying her years well, glorious head with lots of work, good body shape, moved freely and enjoying her day.
2. Barker-Bell's BALINTYNE BLISS, totally different in type but lots to like, very good head with kind eye and lovely raised brows, wide well shaped
hindquarters, correct tail action was a joy as she powered her way round the ring. 3. Pallister's PENWYN TRULY.
JUNIOR(13, 2)
1. Mc Larnon's WENDOVER HERO, not flashy but so well put together, quality
head, good neck and shoulders, she has a certain ruggedness about her but refined at the same time, moved steadily. 2. Martin's GLENNARA MOONLIGHT SHADOW AT SILVAGEM, taller,
flashier and more mature than the winner, shown in excellent coat and condition, best of heads, good bone and feet.
3. Reilly's SUMMERGATE MAKING MAGIC.
SP. YEARLING (32,8)
1. Limpus's KARillELL KISS N TELL
2. Ciechonska's AOIBHEANNES OPPORTUNIY JW, two top notch young bitches so similar in many respects. Both are very well constructed showing excellent balance, well angulated in upper arm and shoulders, well developed in rib, have wide powerful hindquarters and good croups, which enabled them both to move correctly. While I made OPPORTUNITY more refined in head and expression, I made KISS N TELL slightly more racy. Both I feel have very bright futures ahead of them.
3. Pike's REDCLYST GLENURY COUNTESS
MAIDEN(15,4)
1. Brown's KIRKAVAGH CORRIDA, more settled here than in Junior, good overall shape and pleasing type, strongly made but no hint of coarseness, wide rugged hindquarters, kind, dark eye, in good nick.
2. Wallen's KARIDELL KEEP A SECRET, close up, substantial but refined bitch, lovely head with lots of work in it, good general construction, shown in lovely bloom.
3. Wright's PENWYN LIVIN LA VIDA LOCA.
NOVICE(16,4)
1 .Pike's RED CLYST GLENURY COUNTESS , pleasing in type and general balance, wide robust hindquarters, oval skull and soft expression, low set ears, ample bone.
2. Brown's KIRKAVAGH CORRIDA
3. W allen's KARIDELL KEEP A SECRET.
UNDERGRADUATE (24, 4)
1. Sheldon's DELSANTO CHARMAINE, maturing slowly but surely, stylish bitch with gorgeous head and outlook, clean neck, shoulders and front, plenty of depth to the body presents a pleasing picture.
2. Brown's SHANDWICK JADE AT TIFOSI, nice breed type without exaggeration, , balanced in body, correct bone, well presented. 3. MacDonald's LOCHFRAE CALAMITY JANE
GRADUATE(13,3)
1. Kavanagh's WITHERSDALE KUPOLA, new one to me but a quality bitch shown in top form, medium size and proportionate throughout, powerful
hindquarters and width to the croup, correct tailset, kind expression, moved freely. 2. Pollard's GRAYRIGGE GRACE 0' MALLEY, loved her type, unfortunately not in her best bib and tucker, scored in head, expression, front angulation, bone, ribs and moved well.
3. Brown's SHANDWICK JADE AT TIFOSI.
POST GRADUATE ( 20, 10)
1. Swainston's TWOACRES KITTIWAKE AT GLENVARNA, surprised I liked " this bitch as much as I did, medium sized and very well balanced-, deep chest , well sprung ribs, excellent back end, good tail carriage, nice head shape but would prefer a slightly softer expression, moved with purpose.
2. Warmington's GLENNARA CRYSTAL OF RYLEENS, strongly made bitch who could lose some weight to advantage, loads of work in her head giving kindly expression, correct neck and shoulders, good bone, muscular loins, enough bend of stifle and hock, moved well.
3. Frampton's COUNTRY BELLE OF WENDOVER.
MID LIMIT (15,3)
1. Powis' s AMBERWAVE DAZZLE JW, liked her very much as a Junior and still do, high quality bitch who excels in overall soundness and free flowing movement, very good head, strong body, gently sloping topline, good tailset and carriage, still to reach full maturity and finish.
2. Gardner's CARNBARGUS CONGRATULATION JW, different type from 1 but also high quality, loved her beautiful sculpted head and kind expressive eyes with raised brows, well developed in body, arched loins, tight feet, shown in lovely bloom.
3. Bott's BARDONHILL FLAMING JUNE.
LIMIT(19,8)
1. Henderson's SAMETSUZ MAK'N MISCHIEF, a bitch I know well and today she was in the best form I have seen. Yes, ideally I would like her coat colour to be darker and like them all she has some imperfections, but overall she presented an impressive picture of balance and full maturity, excellent bum and tailset, she
really drove round the ring so freely using her tail correctly. Based on the above I awarded her Res.CC.
2. Hawkins's HENALEAS FLIRTING AROUND, ran the winner close, top notch bitch whom I have seen in better bloom. She excells in head shape and expression, correct neck setting cleanly into her well layed shoulders, ribs well sprung, excellent rear angulation and tailset, lovely gently sloping topline.
3. Dale's ERINADE JAUNTY.
OPEN(8, I)
1. Wharton's SH. CH. DELSANTO ELEANOR OF JENNISON, what a cracker! Superb bitch of the very highest calibre. Combines substance with style and soundness, the very best of heads, correct front and rear angulation, deep through the body, strong arched loins, correct at the croup, covers lots of ground with her free flowing long strides finished off with the desired slashing tail action. She is full of fun and Irish devilment and I would imagine is a real handful to show. I was delighted to award her a very well deserved CC.
2. King's SH. CH. KIRKAVAGH KOOYONGA, slightly different in type, top quality bitch now at full maturity, classy well chiselled head with raised brows and dark feminine expressive eyes, proportioned throughout, deep chest, angulated hindquarters, moved freely and with style, has a flatter and more manageable coat than the winner and as usual was presented immaculately. Worthy Champion.
3. Stockton's SH. CH. CLONAGEERA INSPIRATION FOR KESPAS.
